Positive Impact: Terra carta

Terra Carta Earth Charter Sustainable Markets Initiative

The Prince of Wales is launching a Terra Carta in order to give fundamental rights and values to Nature

Prince Charles is leading a new initiative to tackle the climate crisis, yeehaa!

“Deriving its name from the historic Magna Carta, which inspired a belief in the fundamental rights and liberties of people over 800 years ago, the Terra Carta aims to reunite people and planet, by giving fundamental rights and value to Nature, ensuring a lasting impact and tangible legacy for this generation.” - HRH’s Sustainable Markets Initiative

The "Terra Carta" commits companies to taking practical action for a more sustainable future. One of the goals is to direct a whopping $10 billion to green causes by 2022.

The charter has gained the support of many leading global companies including Bank of America, BP, BlackRock, AstraZeneca, EY, Unilever, Heathrow Airport, HSBC and Fidelity International.

Prince Charles has urged that "we have to be much more ambitious" and make 2035 the new goal to achieve net zero emissions (previously 2050). The majority of listed companies don't have plans in place to counteract the climate emergency and there are still "a lot more people to convince".

The Terra Carta serves as the "guiding mandate" of the Sustainable Markets Initiative. A scheme launched in 2020 by Charlie and co-chaired by Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, to put people and planet "at the heart of global value creation."

"What good is all the extra wealth in the world, gained from 'business as usual,' if you can do nothing with it except watch it burn in catastrophic conditions?"

Well said Princey.
