School Sustainability Programme - Human Superhero

A varied programme of activities that are fun and educational, to engage children with the natural world and empower them to be planet saving superheroes!

Superhero Movement Workshop

In this workshop we work with the idea that many superpowers exist in the natural world - birds can fly, sea creatures breathe underwater, mountains have super strength….

We explore movement qualities from 3 categories - the elements, landscapes and creatures. The children then create their own superheroes by choosing inspiration from each category. For example, a child might create a superhero based on mountains, birds and fire.

The idea is two-fold - empowering the children to feel like superheroes and be able to save the planet, and also to create connections with the natural world, with a sense of value, honour and appreciation.

Superhero Carbon Footprint Game

A higher/lower game for guessing the carbon footprint of everyday actions and items, entitled ‘How Bad Are Bananas?’

This game acts as a gateway to conversation and finding out all of the different aspects that have caused that particular carbon footprint. We bring our own superhero twist to the game by asking the children, 'what would a superhero do?'

Up-cycling Superhero Capes

In this session we make up-cycled superhero capes with different recycled materials and block printing.

The children are encouraged to bring in things from home that would otherwise be thrown away to use for their designs. Here they learn about the importance of resources, showing that we can create new things out of old things.

We also teach about cruelty-free and environmentally friendly paint/products etc. Depending on the age of the class, we additionally talk about fast fashion.

Booking Information

All workshops can be tailored for the class according to age and what they have studied.

Each workshop lasts1 hour (ie. the full programme is 3 hours plus breaks).

One facilitator is provided per workshop (ie. 3 facilitators for the entire programme).

We recommend the full programme; however, you can also book the workshops individually.

You can choose whether to complete the full programme in one day, or whether to split each section so that it runs across 3 dates.

We recommend booking each facilitator for a full day in order to hold multiple sessions and rotate classes as this is better value for money; however, you can also book individual workshops.

Prices are dependent on how many workshops you would like to book and the location of your school.

For the full programme, rates start at £400.

Please contact yoohoo@impactfestival.co.uk where we’ll be happy to discuss the programme and answer any queries.
